Hey, my friend, what is up? And welcome back to another episode of Do Life Big. I am so excited that you are here today. I apologize in advance if I sound a little bit nasally. Definitely picked up some kind of virus with all the traveling I've been doing over the last three weeks. Just did, three weeks of traveling back-to-back, between going to visit my Nana in her last few days of her life, to then flying back again for the funeral, and then returning from that trip and having to leave two days later to go to Arizona for a business conference that's put on by my business mentor, whoo! Anyways, needless to say, all that traveling has totally kicked me in the butt and has definitely sent me a little under the weather. But here I am sharing all this information here with you today, and I really think that you're going to love today's episode, because I don't know about you, but have you ever had one of those days where you know you've got the list, you've got the plan, you know, you even have all the time to do the work that you need to do, and you still don't do the thing that you need to do, and instead, you spend the time scrolling, or you're cleaning, or you're reorganizing all your email folders, or you're even contemplating, maybe, you know, I should just go do the Laundry or start that load of dishes, but the actual thing you said you were going to do, it doesn't even happen. And then here it comes. This is where it all floods in, the guilt, right? The shame, that voice in your head that says you are so lazy you're never going to make this work. But here's the thing, what if I told you that procrastination actually has nothing to do with laziness. It has everything to do with fear, identity and the subconscious beliefs that are running the show when you're not even looking so in this episode today, I'm going to take the time to pull back the curtain on the real reason why you're procrastinating. I know we can relate to this. This is something that we all struggle with. All struggle with, and I promise it is not because you're broken, it is not because you're lazy, it's not because you're unmotivated. So let's dive in.
So let's just be real here for a second, right? Every single entrepreneur procrastinates, especially moms. Because the thing is, we don't just have a business that we need to be running. We have, you know, kids that need to be fed right, noses that need to be wiped, appointments that need to be remembered, sports to attend after school, homework that needs to be done, all of that and emotions to hold space for that aren't even our own. So first, just take a deep breath for a second. And if you've been procrastinating, it's not a sign that you're failing, okay? It's just simply a sign that your brain is doing its job. And your brain's job is to protect you, and in most times, in most cases, it's protecting you from just this perceived danger, so not actual danger, but the kind of internal discomfort that comes with doing something new or coming out of your comfort zone, or being bold or doing something uncomfortable. So, procrastination isn't laziness. It's really just a defense mechanism. So let's talk about what procrastination is really about. It's about these few things right here. First one is, it's about the fear of failure, you know, that thought that goes through your head of you know, what if I try and this doesn't work, it can also be about the fear of success, you know, what if I can't handle it, when it does it work for me? What if it's too much? What if it's what if it's too big? It's also rooted in perfectionism. If I can't do it perfectly, I'll wait until I can. And the last one is just simply a lack of clarity. You know, you tend to procrastinate more when you don't have a clear vision about.
What even needs to be done in your business, or where you might even be going with your business, and you might think things like, you know, if I'm not really sure on what to do, then I'm just not going to do anything at all. Right, does any of that sound familiar? Well, your brain wants predictability. It wants certainty. It wants safety. It wants that comfort and building a business, raising a family, showing up online every day, selling your stuff that is the opposite of comfortable, so your subconscious is just saying to you, okay, hey, listen up. Listen up. Kathi. Let's stay safe. Let's just scroll instead. Let's just play block blaster instead you ever play that game.
And this is especially true for moms, because we're constantly making decisions every day, all day long. We're managing emotions, we're showing up for everyone else, and literally, we're just completely our bandwidth is just tapped out. So when it comes time to show up for yourself, it really feels like your system is saying, Nope, not today, shutting down. We're not doing it. So here's something though that most people miss. You will never consistently act in a way that contradicts who you believe you are. So let me say that again, you will never consistently act in a way that contradicts who you believe you are. If deep down, you don't fully see yourself as a successful business owner or a confident leader or a woman who follows through, you'll subconsciously delay taking action that would prove that. Otherwise, if you're not lazy, you're not out of alignment with your future identity, that version of you, that six or seven figure mom, CEO, the one who moves boldly with confidence, who takes action, who trusts herself. She is not waiting until the kids are older. She is not waiting for more clarity. She's not waiting for perfection. So the question becomes, how can you shift into her energy right now? How can you move in that future version of yourself now?
So let me give you three really powerful ways to break this procrastination cycle. The first one is this, identify the fear under the task. So ask yourself, What am I afraid might happen if I actually do this right? Are you worried about being judged? Are you worried about failing? Are you worried about being seen? Are you worried about being seen starting small? Are you worried that you might not be viewed as the expert in your area, whatever it is, and identify the fear under why you are procrastinating around that task.
The second one is to just do it messy. Do it anyways, right? Instead, I want you to swap out perfectionism for momentum. Put it out there when it's not perfect, because done is always better than perfect. Something is always better than nothing. I always say that.
And the third thing is this, step into your future self and literally ask yourself, all right, here, you know, if you're shooting for a six-figure business, or you're finally want to break through the seven-figure business, right? Ask yourself, what would the six-figure version of me do right now. What would the seven-figure version of me do today in this moment? And you know what? She might not feel like it either, but guess what? She sure as shit does it anyways, right? She will do it anyways, because consistency wins time and time again. And I'll add just a quick little bonus tip to this too, to add into those little steps, just get out there and move your body, because procrastination loves just stagnant energy. So just go for a little walk around your neighborhood. Put on some music and do a little dance in your kitchen, and sing it out, shake it up a little bit. But just get out of your head and into your body, and that will help. So you're not lazy, you are not unmotivated. You're just human, a human mom who's doing big things with a busy life and a big, beautiful dream that you should never stop chasing. And so the next time that you catch yourself procrastinating, don't shame yourself, right? Get curious for a second. Just look at it and use it as data, as an opportunity to be more aware to what's really going on in your subconscious, what's really at the root of this, what's really going on here, what am I avoiding? And how can you show up for yourself even just a little bit right now in that moment, right? Maybe you don't do the whole thing, but maybe you just do a little small piece of it, because that's better than nothing, because the future you the one who did the damn thing. Guess what? She didn't get there by being perfect. She didn't get there by over analyzing and procrastinating. She got there by moving and doing it and showing up anyway.
