[00:00:00]
[00:01:00] Hey my friend, what is up? And welcome back to another episode of Do Life Big. I am so excited to have you here today. I apologize, we haven't had an episode drop in a couple of weeks. I've started another business with my husband and a couple business partners, a property management company, and we have just been in it.
Let me tell you, in all the good ways. But sometimes, you know, you gotta slow down to speed up. So I wasn't able to get to everything, but I'm here now and I'm excited that you're here too, because today's episode is going to be so good for you, and it's gonna be all about the power of doing things differently.
So here's the deal. If you wanna get extraordinary results in your life, you can't do what everybody else is doing, period. Plain and simple. Because the truth is when you follow the norm, when you follow and you do what everybody else is doing, you're just gonna blend in. You're just gonna be vanilla.
You're not [00:02:00] gonna stand out at all. You're gonna be just like everybody else, and then you're going to get average results and you're gonna get lost in the noise. When you choose to do things differently, that's when people start to finally notice you. And that's when opportunities pop up and that's when you can actually build something big.
And I'm talking big, big, big, big. So let me just start out by just giving you just a kind of a real life example right here. Like I just said. We started a property management company up in North Carolina, NC Cabin Rentals, my husband and I, and we have two business partners and we have like the dream team.
Let me just tell you, I have two homes up there myself that are vacation rentals that we've owned for five years and we are just doing things differently and. The reason that we're having so much success so quickly with this business, the reason why homeowners are coming on board with us right away is very, very simple.
It's because we're not doing what everybody [00:03:00] else is doing. The majority, almost all I'd say, of the homeowners up in that area where our home is in the high country of North Carolina in the mountains, they are not happy with. The property management companies that are managing their homes, they're losing revenue.
Their homes are not booking, the homes are not being taken care of very well. They're not being cleaned well. They're not being maintained well, all the things. And so they're coming to us very frustrated. They're looking for a different way, and so they're seeing success with us because we're not doing what everybody else is doing up there.
We're doing things so much differently. We're doing it better. And so the larger companies up there, they all kind of operate the same way. And they treat homeowners just like their numbers and they have just like a cookie cutter system. They just have this model of set it and forget it in terms of setting the homeowner's rates and it doesn't work and volume is everything to them up there, and it just feels very transactional, right?
We [00:04:00] looked at this and we said, Nope, no way in hell we are going to do this completely different. We're not happy with the results that we're getting, so we're gonna pull our homes. Out of that property management company, and we are going to do it the right way. Now, luckily one of our business partners has built the largest privately owned, property management company in the US and he has always done things differently.
That's why he has gotten such great results. And so we're doing the same exact model and we're building a very personalized, boutique relationship driven company. If you'd say so, we're focusing more on the quality over the quantity, and it's very personalized. We're innovative. We're actually listening to what the homeowners want, instead of just shoving them into a one size fits all model.
And guess what? The homeowners are immediately seeing a difference. The homes are being taken care of better because we're having that personalization with the actual guests. The homeowners are happier because their homes are being taken care of [00:05:00] and their homes are actually booking and they're actually earning more income, and so they're gonna be earning more revenue with their homes, which will allow them to be able to go on and purchase.
More properties in the future, which is, let's just face it. That's what we all wanna do. I know personally, when we first bought our first rental property up in North Carolina five years ago, we had this goal of we were going to purchase one a year. Let's just add to our portfolio. Add to our collection, one a year.
How cool would that be? Not only will they be vacation rentals and an extra stream of income, but we're gonna use them for our family vacations. But the problem was. Because they're being managed by this larger company out there with a set it and forget it method and not the personalized touch, which is what it needs.
Our properties, were losing money every single year, and because of that, we didn't have the money to take to be able to put into another property. Now, I've always kind of, you know, I've been into entrepreneurship now for like 13 years, so I know that you're not supposed to follow the norm.
I know that you're not supposed to do what everybody else is doing because you're gonna get the same results and you're not gonna [00:06:00] stand out and you're not gonna get extraordinary results and live an extraordinary life. But what I'm also noticing now since working with my business partner who's had such extreme success is that.
It is one of the things that he lives by. It's one of the biggest lessons that he has been teaching us is to, whenever everybody else is going one way, just always go the opposite. And sometimes that can be really difficult for people because you get set in your ways and you feel like, well, everybody else is doing it, so I should probably do that too.
But you can't follow the crowd and he doesn't follow the crowd. That's why he's built multiple, incredibly successful companies. He doesn't copy. Instead, what he does is he asks, okay, what's the norm here? What's everyone doing and how can I flip it right on its head? And honestly, that's been a huge key to his success.
And it's a mindset that I adopted a long time ago. But when you hear it from someone who's at this high, high level, you know and believe it to be true, [00:07:00] right? Because success leaves clues. So here's the problem with doing things the normal way. Normal is just gonna keep you safe. It's going to keep you familiar, it's gonna keep you comfortable.
It's gonna keep you getting the same results you've always gotten. It never leads to something different. It never leads to a better result. It never leads to an extraordinary life. If you're doing what everyone else is doing, then you're basically just invisible because you're not standing out.
You're offering no reason for someone to pick you over the 10 other people who look and sound exactly the same. And I can think back, even when I had my health and fitness business, when there were like 400,000 coaches and we were all selling the exact same products, the exact same programs for the exact same price.
How was it that I built a multiple six figure business in such a fast amount of time and had such extreme success with that, but others didn't. It was because I wasn't promoting it the way that everybody else was doing it. I was promoting it my way by [00:08:00] being my authentic self, I was doing things differently.
So this applies to every single area of life and business is doing. Things differently. How can we be different? How can we stand out? And you should always be asking yourself that, like, what makes people want to work with us? What makes someone want to come to me? And when you decide to go in a different direction.
That's when people start to perk up a little bit. Like, oh, what's going on over there? That's when they lean in. That's when they go, wait a minute, wait a minute. Tell me about what you've got going on here. Tell me a little bit more about this. I wanna hear about this. I wanna get in on this. I need to learn more.
I need to hear more. Tell me. Being different is what sets you apart. It makes you memorable for people. And honestly, it's so much more fun because it gives you a chance to really just go out and create your own rules instead of trying to just. Squeeze yourself into someone else's and blend in. So now how can you apply this to your life or to your business?
So let me just [00:09:00] ask you here really quickly. So listen, where in your life or your business right now are you just kind of following the crowd? Where are you blending in? Think about it. There's an area where you are just kind of doing what everybody else in that same area of business is doing. And what would it look like though if you did it the opposite?
Right. If you're building a business, maybe everyone else is cold, DMing and spamming people, but what if you were the one who went out and built real actual relationships instead? How about if you're creating content? Maybe everybody else is copying all the trending hooks. What if you were the person who leaned into just your own unique, authentic story instead?
Just did it. Totally different. Or if you're someone who's running a program, maybe everybody else is making it just generic, right? But what if you were the one who made it deeply personal so that people could build that true connection with you? Listen, when you stop asking, Hmm, let me see here. Well, what is everybody else doing?[00:10:00]
And instead you ask, how can I do this differently? That's when you're going to step into your power. That's when it happens. So here's my challenge for you this week. I want you to just pick one area of your business or life where you've just been kind of going with the flow, doing what everybody else is doing, and I want you to flip it.
I want you to try something different, because here's the truth. If you do what everybody else does, you'll get what everybody else gets. But if you dare to do it differently, that's where the magic is going to happen for you. So I hope this episode helped you out today. If it did, please share it with a friend.
